Counter Logic Gaming vs Team Liquid preview

It’s that time of the NA LCS split where everyone and their mother has made a team power ranking list after week one. And now comes week two: The time when everyone’s new power ranking list is going to have to be remade… again.

Counter Logic Gaming ended the spring split on the same note that Team Solo-mid started the split on: Laughably bad.

That’s not to say no one saw their merits as a team, its just a plain fact that they were bottom tiered, for whatever reason.

Surprisingly, they’ve begun the new season on high note. Despite losing out to TSM, who are looking like they’ve fixed their ‘communication issues’ and are playing like their ‘best NA’ selves again, CLG showed strongly in their match against defending season champs 100 Thieves. But then again, so did Team Liquid.

It could be that Darshan n’ the boys have found a new source of momentum and will run with this season in to the top 4, or it could just be that we’ve caught them on an alright weekend and they’ll return to their 7th place form on Saturday.

As for TL, coming off of an incredibly disappointing mid-season invitational meant that they were always going to be up against a tough mental battle coming back home that no other team would be dealing with.

So far, it looks like their poor international form stuck with them on the flight to LA. They might be tied with CLG with a 1-1 record, but giving up a game to last split’s 10th place team Golden Guardians is in no way forgivable for what is supposed to be NA’s playoff champions.

In terms of strategy,

CLG seem to be opting for a more TSM-like strategy, with a conventional line-up of ADC’s and mages right where they’re supposed to be, while Team Liquid have redoubtably struggled with finding their identity in the craziness that is the meta.

Judging from there previous two games, its likely that the match will showcase a traditional form of game play, with both sides opting for ADC compositions that won’t stray too much from what either team is used to.

If you want crazy, you’ll have to settle for a small chance at bruisers in the mid-lane.
