Season 9 is just around the corner, and the League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) competitive scene looks very different from previous years. Let’s see who the top mid laners of the LCK are going forward…

The mid lane is one of the most scrutinized positions in all of League of Legends. It’s the lane where assassins and mages thrive and duel it out. Many of League’s most iconic moments have come in this lane and from the players that have played in this lane. Going into Season 9, let’s have a look at the top players in this position in the LCK.

3. Lee “Kuro” Seo-haeng (Afreeca Freecs)

Unfortunately, the most recent memory of Kuro is his destruction at the hands of C9’s Jensen on LeBlanc. Despite that, it is important to remember that he was the mid laner of the only Korean team in the worlds knockout stage this season.

Also, remember that Kuro is still a brutal source of damage in team fights. Out of the mid laners in the Summer Split last season. Kuro boasted the most assists at 219. Pair that with the second most kills at 117, there is no mid laner more desirable in team fights than Kuro.

2. Gwak “Bdd” Bo-seong (KT Rolster)

The player that is responsible for maybe the cleanest Irelia solo kill ever seen is Bdd. His mechanics are clean, but the biggest statistic here is the sheer number of kills he had during the LCK Summer Split. During this split, Bdd had 128 kills in 43 games played.

With kill pressure as high as Bdd presents, opposing mid laners are forced to respect his kill potential from level 2 going forward. This constant kill pressure allows his jungler to farm more, focus ganks in the top and bot lanes, and to rotate to scuttles at all stages of the game.

Also, his godlike Zed play doesn’t hurt.

1. Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon (Griffin)

Chovy’s play from the mid lane is still the material for nightmares for the rest of the LCK. His legendary carry on Orianna against Afreeca Freecs and Irelia performances in the KeSPA Cup shoves him to the top of this list.

At only 17 years of age, Griffin’s Chovy has shown a cool head for the big moment, and his KDA is proving it. During last year’s summer split, Chovy had a ridiculous 9.1 KDA. Out of players from any position in the Summer Split last season, Chovy was the only player to have at least 100 kills and less than  40 deaths.

Arguably, the greatest strength of Chovy is his inhuman ability to keep wave control level one no matter what champion he is playing. This means he is able to rotate early to help his jungler’s early in scuttle crab skirmishes.

Why SKT’s Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeokisn’t on this list

The answer is quite simple actually. If this were a “greatest of all time” list, Faker would be #1 by a country mile. However, this list is compiled on LCK right now. Faker’s statistics simply are not up to par with other LCK mid laners. Just for comparison, Chovy’s 9.1 KDA was about three times that of Faker’s 3.1 KDA. There’s little doubt that Faker will make a comeback during Season 9, but Season 8 simply wasn’t kind to the SKT mid laner.
