Patch 9.3 may have brought AD Carries a lot of shiny new toys, but those changes vastly affected both parts of the bot lane in League of Legends. Today, in our Patch 9.4 tier list, we look at the fallout to supports.

Support may not be the sexiest role in League of Legends, and they may have gotten a bit of a beat down after the hotfix that nerfed their support items because of abuse in top lane, but they’re still helping to carry the load. Our Patch 9.4 tier list breaks down which champions you should be looking to use to carry from the support role. Check out the raw data behind the rankings here if you’re interested.

Support tier list

S tier: Thresh, Nami

A tier: Morgana, Blitzcrank, Sona, Leona, Soraka, Pyke, Zyra, Fiddlesticks, Lux, Bard, Vel’Koz, Zilean, Brand

B tier: Janna, Lulu, Alistar, Taric, Braum

C tier: Nautilus, Karma, Xerath, Veigar, Tahm Kench, Rakan

D tier: Galio, Gragas, Shen, Poppy

Rising champions

Vel’Koz (B tier to A tier)

Surprising, to be sure, that Vel’Koz and other mage supports like Lux, Zyra, Fiddlesticks, and Brand are all still thriving following the rise of crit ADCs and the 9.3 hotfix that significantly weakened Spellthief’s Edge. However, it seems that things have settled down and the support landscape is fairly diverse – including a few choice mages.

Falling champions

Gragas (C tier to D tier)

On the other hand, Gragas has lost ground likely because of the rise of mage supports and the fact that he – unlike most tanks – he opted to take Spellthief’s over Targon’s as a support item. The decreased efficiency plus the stabilization of mage supports who easily bully him probably contributed to his steep drop.

Janna (A tier to B tier)

This one is strange, given that you would expect heal and shield supports to thrive in a meta where ADCs have such high influence (see Sona and Soraka). Unfortunately, the classic supports in the “protect the ADC” comps like Janna and Lulu are struggling. Part can be attributed to the Spellthief’s and Ancient Coin nerfs, but I’ll be interested to see if shield champs ever start making a real push to the top of the tier list.

Nautilus (B tier to C tier)

And we have the Titan of the Depths left to rot at the bottom of the support Patch 9.4 tier list ocean. Unfortunately, he continues to struggle into those scaling ADCs.

Buffed champions

None

Nerfed champions

Thresh

Much like almost every other champion in the other Patch 9.4 tier lists, the nerfs to Thresh haven’t had too much of an effect on his win rate or impact. The Chain Warden’s score did drop, yes, but he’s still far and away the best support in our Patch 9.4 tier list.
