With the new League of Legends patch dropping soon and the reworked Kayle set to be released in just over a week, we take a look at which Kayle skin is best.

One of the most fun parts of a champion getting reworked is seeing what Riot has done to their outdated skins, and Kayle is no exception. Her long history in the game means that she has a wardrobe full of alternate outfits, most of which will probably be re-released alongside the rework.

Which Kayle skin reigns supreme after the rework? Let’s find out!

More from League of Legends

This skin used to be called “Unmasked Kayle” and was literally identical to Kayle’s default appearance besides the presence of her helmet. The rework’s given it a life of its own, but the fact remains that Transcended Kayle is still pretty boring. It doesn’t have enough unique features to differentiate itself enough from her base skin, and so Transcended Kayle ends up at the bottom of the tier list.

8. Viridian Kayle

Viridian Kayle beats out Transcended Kayle, but only barely. It’s gained its own theme besides “green Kayle skin,” but doesn’t do enough with it – I wanted to see plant-based particle effects, not Kayle’s default gold. The wings, when fully stacked, look amazing, but that’s not enough to get Viridian Kayle higher in the rankings. Plus, have you seen her face in the splash art? Something weird’s going on there.

7. Battleborn Kayle

Battleborn Kayle used to be an option for if you wanted an even more heavily-armored Kayle, but the rework has sadly toned that down. Now, Battleborn Kayle is more of a Viking-inspired skin, which is a far cry from its previous iteration. The giant sword is nice, but ultimately Battleborn Kayle doesn’t do enough with its concept to justify the swap.

6. Iron Inquisitor Kayle

The new model looks fantastic, as does the blood-red wings when Kayle reaches max stacks on her passive, but Iron Inquisitor suffers quite a bit for keeping her default particle effects. It’s hard to feel like an eldritch angel when you’re still blasting foes with holy light, and this alone keeps Iron Inquisitor out of the top half of the list.

5. Judgement Kayle

It’s an older skin, but the rework has done wonders for Judgement Kayle. On top of an amazing new splash, Judgement Kayle has an absolutely fantastic model – just check out those terrifying dark wings and hooded figure. Unfortunately, the golden particle effects clash with the skin’s theme, keeping it from scoring higher on the list.

4. Riot Kayle

Riot Kayle used to be the third-best Kayle skin, but the rework actually nerfed it in several ways. She lost the constant siren from her E, and the beret she wears in her first form is pretty silly-looking. On top of that, the golden particles on her ultimate clash horribly with the rest of the skin, which means Riot Kayle loses out on its top-three placement to another competitor.

3. Silver Kayle

Silver Kayle is quite similar to Judgement Kayle: they’re both super-rare skins that were only available way back in the day, and both received mind-blowingly good splash artwork during the rework. Silver Kayle, however, makes far better use of the gold particle effects than Judgement Kayle does.

So why does it beat out Riot Kayle, which has its own model and unique particles? Take a look at the splash art – that’s good enough to justify this skin taking the third spot.

2. Pentakill Kayle

Unlike Riot Kayle, Pentakill Kayle’s particles perfectly match the metal theme of the skin, which immediately jumps it ahead in the tier list. On top of that, the skin comes with an incredible model and some kickass sound effects that really play up just how metal Pentakayle can be. It’s certainly one of her best skins, but Kayle still has one more that trumps it.

1. Aether Wing Kayle

It shouldn’t be a surprise that the legendary skin comes in at first, but Aether Wing Kayle is simply incredible post-rework. Each transformation looks more amazing than the last, and the particles are simply to die for. On top of that, Aether Wing Kayle got a voiceover update alongside the rework that incorporates it into the Steel Valkyries skin line, which hopefully means we’ll have some lore coming soon for it.

The biggest reason Aether Wing Kayle takes the top spot? She actually gets MORE armor as she transforms, rather than less. That’s enough to propel it to the top tier for me.
