League of Legends LEC playoff preview: is there a chance for Schalke?
By Josh Tyler
Fnatic looks to recover from their loss to G2 last week by facing off with Schalke in the LEC playoffs. We preview tomorrow’s League of Legends action.
G2 awaits, but for now Fnatic will have to go through Schalke for the honor of battling for the LEC championship. This best of five series is sure to feature some great League of Legends action. Who has the advantage?
In this corner…
Fnatic, the undisputed second-best team in the LEC during the regular season. They cannot be feeling good about playing in this match, however, as they squandered a 2-0 lead in their series last week to G2 that would have guaranteed them a spot in the LEC finals.

After finishing the regular season 14-4, Fnatic can guarantee themselves a spot in the World Championships should they win (Schalke would be unable to catch them in points, meaning they’d hold a spot in the finals of the regional qualifier). They’d also guarantee a chance to right the wrongs of last week in a rematch against G2.
In that corner…
FC Schalke 04, a sneakily strong team that is really showing themselves to have a great shot at punching their ticket to Worlds as well. Although they narrowly missed the playoffs during the Spring Split, Schalke recovered and finished fourth during the Summer Split with an 11-7 record.
They managed to take down the red-hot Vitality in the quarterfinal round of the playoffs in a decisive 3-1 victory. Against an ever red-hotter Rogue last week, Schalke ended the Cinderella story with another 3-1 victory, albeit a bit less decisive (thanks to a massive misplay by Larssen). A win here would be crucial, as they want to put themselves in a position to potentially pass Fnatic and earn a spot in the regional qualifier finals, guaranteeing a trip to Worlds.
