An update to the League of Legends PBE revealed that the next champion introduced to Teamfight Tactics will be Kai’Sa!

Another champion from League of Legends will be joining the Teamfight Tactics Arena in Patch 9.19! Yes, an update to the PBE today shows that the newest unit coming to TFT will be Kai’Sa. What synergies will she bring, what ability will she have, and what could the introduction of Kai’Sa mean for Teamfight Tactics?

"Cost: 5gClass: Ranger & AssassinOrigin: Void"

It’s very interesting that Riot gave Kai’Sa two Classes, as she’ll join Gangplank, Gnar, Kennen, and Swain as the fifth unit to have three synergies. Interestingly, she will also be the first unit with any of those synergies – Void, Ranger, and Assassin – to have three.

More from League of Legends

Kai’Sa will not be the only Void/Assassin in Teamfight Tactics (she’ll join Kha’Zix), but she will be the first Void/Ranger. She’ll also be the first Void, Assassin, or Ranger that is a 5g unit in TFT.

As a 5g unit, Kai’Sa should be a very strong unit on pure stats but it also means she won’t be getting built until late game. This means that you would likely want to synergize her with other late game champions like Cho’Gath (4g, Void), Akali (4g, Assassin), or Kindred (4g, Ranger) along with whatever other 2 or 3-star units you’ve built up in earlier rounds.

"Ability: Kai’Sa dashes past the furthest enemy, gaining a shield and a lot of attack speed for a few seconds."

Riot’s post makes it clear that Kai’Sa is much lower on AD than other Rangers, but she packs higher attack speed. This means that she’ll likely synergize well with items that spec into that like Stattik Shiv or items that give on-hit benefits like Red Buff.

Finally, with the introduction of Kai’Sa, Riot will be making a change to the Void Origin as a whole:

"Kai’Sa comes with an additional change to the Void trait. We’re happy with the true damage as a counter to strong defense, but it’s a little too easy to get it going in the early game with 3 low cost units. Because of this we’re shifting Void to work like Imperial.(2): One of your Void units does true damage(4): All of your Void units do true damage"

I think Riot (and a lot of players) underestimates how powerful Imperial is even at two units, because it gives your units a 50% chance of getting the buff. So, if you were to build an end game comp with Cho’Gath/Kai’Sa, at worst your Cho will be doing true damage on an AoE ability while adding CC. Best case is your Kai’Sa is constantly outputting DPS while doing true damage.

Next. Star Guardian Little Legends are coming to Teamfight Tactics. dark

Ultimately, I think Kai’Sa will have the potential to become the next big late game carry, going up against units like Draven or Aurelion Sol (and to a lesser-extent Jinx, Swain, or Karthus). Beyond her own synergies, she will also give more options for a late game Ranger comp (like Glacial/Rangers, Noble/Rangers, and now Void/Rangers). She could also make Ninja/Void/Assassin comps a possibility (running Shen, Zed, Kennen, Akali, Kai’Sa, Kha’Zix) or just a straight-up six Assassin comp buffed up by Void (with maybe Guardians to synergize with). The possibilities are endless!
