Entering Stage 2

Before you go into Stage 2, you should have multiple item components (or a strong upgraded item) and at least three 1-star units (hopefully one of them is a 2-star). At this point, you need to choose your first line-up of champions for the PvP rounds. In order, here is who you should be putting out onto the Arena:

  1. Any 2-star units you’ve managed to acquire
  2. Any units that will give a synergy to the 2-star units you have
  3. The strongest 1-star units you have

The third point above is why you should attempt to hold onto the 2g unit you got off the Carousel, as you will often need to play it if you didn’t get any 2-star units off the minion round.

Stage 2 strategy

During Stage 2, including the pre and post-Carousel rounds, you should continue the strategy outlined above when it comes to buying champions. Always get pairs when available, buy strong units like Garen or Kassadin even if there’s only one and put them out there if you need to, and upgrade your units to 2-stars and replace the weaker units (even if it destroys a synergy).

Now, in Stage 2 you will either get a win-streak, loss-streak, or neither. This will affect how aggressive or conservative you should be when it comes to spending:

  • If you win-streak, save your gold with the intention of using the extra gold to level early (after Krugs) and get Tier 3 units earlier to snowball your advantage. If you get on a win-streak in Stage 2, you likely managed to hit on some good items or good 2-star units. Obviously, if you can upgrade your existing 1-star units on the board or replace them with 2-star units you should but there is no need to be spending 1g on a Kassadin that you’re just going to have sitting on the bench.
  • If you lose-streak, you should also save with the intention of hyper-rolling after Krugs. Lose-streaking early usually means you didn’t hit on good items and didn’t get any pairs upgraded before Stage 2, making it very unlikely that you can catch-up before Krugs. Therefore, you should hold all the gold you can, see what items you get off Krugs, then sell everything to hyper-roll into better champions at the start of Stage 3.
  • If you don’t get a win-streak or loss-streak going (meaning you split the first two rounds in Stage 2)

    spend

your gold a bit more aggressively. Because you won’t get the extra income from the streaks, you won’t be able to level early or hyper-roll at Krugs. Instead, try sticks to the same principals of getting as many strong units and 2-star units to put out when you can. Once you see the items you get after Krugs, you can re-assess.
