10. Zdravets “Hylissang” Iliev Galabov (Fnatic) – 77 OVR

Hylissang gets a whole lot of praise for being one of the best supports in EU, and he’s certainly got the talent level. However, a few of his underlying numbers are quite concerning.

First, his high death count. He averages 3.94 deaths per game, the most of any player in the entire tournament by a large margin. This high death count also gives him the lowest adjusted KDA of any player at 1.58.

Second, his laning is quite poor compared to the other top supports. He is the only support in this top ten who has a negative XP differential at 15 (-194).

Finally, he is the worst support in this top ten in terms of vision control. His 2.16 vision score per minute is the lowest of any of the ten best supports on this list. Paired with Rekkles, Fnatic’s bot lane will have to step up if they don’t want to drag down a team that should have aspirations to go deep in this tournament.

9. Tore “Norskeren” Hoel Eilertsen (Splyce) – 78 OVR

Norskeren has a similar problem to Hyli in terms of his deaths. With an average of 3.22 deaths per game and a 1.77 aKDA, Norskeren can certainly be a catalyst for some of Splyce’s throws. However, Norskeren at least makes up for it by being the second-best support in terms of vision control at Worlds.

8. Mitchell “Destiny” Shaw (MAMMOTH) – 78 OVR

When putting a player from a lower-quality region this high on my tier list, I want to see that they’ve dominated play domestically. Destiny certainly qualifies as such, posting a 1.00 Laning Score and 113.5% adjusted kill participation (thanks to a ridiculous 81.5% raw kill participation) that tops the role at Worlds. The only issue in Destiny’s game is subpar vision control, but that’s to be expected in a region that likely doesn’t abuse vision like they do in higher-quality leagues. Expect Destiny to shine in the group stage.

7. Wang “Baolan” Liu-Yi (Invictus Gaming) – 79 OVR

The fact that the worst support from China still cracks the top ten in our rankings really shows how stacked the LPL was at the support position. Despite the fact that Boalan was above-average in damage output, vision control, and kill participation, he is still massively outstripped by his competitors from the region. In particular, his 2.7 deaths per game are quite concerning, though that is likely a result of Invictus being such an inconsistent team.

6. Jo “CoreJJ” Yong-in (Team Liquid) – 79 OVR

Unquestionably the best player on this Liquid roster, CoreJJ is one of the best laning supports in the world. With an average 601 gold and 305 experience advantage at 15 (giving him a second-best Laning Score among supports of 1.26), CoreJJ has helped propel himself and his teammate Doublelift into top ten positions in our Worlds ranking. The only thing holding him back is his 170.3 adjusted DPM, one of the lowest of players coming from the major regions.
