League of Legends: Top 3 reasons Flamingo will or won’t win Worlds 2019
By s. samek
We continue to break down why each team can, or cannot win the League of Legends Worlds Championship, now moving on to Flamingo Esports.
Flamingo is the team representing Brazil at the League of Legends Worlds Championship in 2019. Let’s discuss three reasons why they will or won’t win it all.
Why Flamingo will win
#1 Best in Brazil
Flamingo is their region’s best. In Split 1 of the CB LoL they went 20-1. That came on the back of a 13-game winning streak. That put them seven games ahead of second-place INTZ. However, INTZ took them out 3-2 in the Split 1 finals to earn the MSI trip.
Flamingo then picked Split 2 back up where they left off gong 16-5 and in first place again.
Yet this time they scored revenge on INTZ by winning the series 3-2.
Flamingo is the best Brazil has to offer with a 36-6 record, two Split finals trips, and a playoff title to go with the two first-place finishes during regular split play. They are a deserving champion of their region and deserve a chance to challenge for a Worlds title.
#2 Unknown
Flamingo is making its debut at Worlds in 2019. Prior to that, we haven’t seen them on the international stage. Taking this into account I think teams could struggle with knowing how to prepare for them. It’s also hard to know just how good this team is outside of their region, which could mess with some teams knowing how much to prep for Flamingo. Fear of the unknown could aid Flamingo.
#3 No Pressure
Minor region teams often come into this tournament with low if any expectations. They typically serve as filler, or warmup games and maybe provide an interesting, or memorable moment to the tournament. Though a lot of the time they get sent home after playing the minimum number of games in unremarkable fashion.
Though I feel like not having expectations to live up to relieves the pressure on teams. Less pressure is good, especially on first time teams like Flamingo. It allows them to have some fun, enjoy the experience and try things. Things that just might work to catch teams off guard and steal a couple of victories.

Why Flamingo won’t win
#1 Untested
This tournament is Flamingo’s first trip out of Brazil. SO while we know they crush all comers in the CB LoL, we don’t know what they can do against other regions. Brazil isn’t also known for being a super tough region either. That doesn’t help matters to really say just how good this team is. The lack of international experience will hurt them here as well.
#2 Not highly Rated
Flamingo received no love in our rating list either. They rated in the number 20 slot. This puts them as one of the weakest teams at worlds. Granted they did get a lower-rated team in their play-in group, but they also got the highest-rated play-in team in their group in Damwon.
Making this a race to finish second in the group, but even getting second in the group puts you at the mercy of one of the group winners which could be Splyce, Clutch, Unicorns of Love, or Hong Kong Attitude. None of these teams will play as tough as Damwon, but they won’t be easy to beat either. Flamingo sits in a lower ranking than any of them, making them the underdog no matter who they square off against.
#3 Brazil’s prior world results
Flamingo has a chance to help out a region that has struggled a bit at worlds. in 2016 INTZ did play in the group stage, but went 1-5 and failed to advance. In 2017 team oNe made it to the play- in the knockout stage, but lost 3-1 to 1907 Fenerbache.
Then in 2018 Kabum made it to a tiebreaker with Detonation Focusme to advance as the second team out of groups, but lost it to get sent home. Brazil seems to have that play-ins block. If Flamingo can overcome that it would be good for the region, but they have to do so first. However, it won’t be easy to advance to groups for this team.
Flamingo looks to test themselves on the World’s stage. If they can surprise some people they may be able to add another title to their trophy case.
