Three Reasons why Griffin will win worlds
1. LCK tested
Griffin enters Worlds as the second seed from the LCK, having beaten out the competition in perhaps the overall toughest region. During the 2019 Spring Split they went 15-3 with a game record of 31-8 to finish in first place, however they did ultimately lose to SKT in the Spring finals.
However despite the Spring Split playoff setback, they didn’t suffer any negative effects and continued to dominate during the summer. Griffin finished 13-5 again with a 29-13 game record to take the top spot again.
Then, deja vu occurred as they lost to SKT in the finals 3-1. Luckily, thanks to the two finals appearances, they earned 160 championship points, the most of any team not named SKT, and thus qualified as the LCK’s second seed.
Head to head with SKT they went 3-1 during regular split play. They also went 3-1 against LCK third seed Damwon gaming. So it’s easy to say that Griffin can play with the best of the LCK. Because Griffin has managed to dominate one of the best regions in the world, they could easily continue this dominance against the best teams in the world.
2. Highly Rated
Griffin rated highly on our Worlds team rankings at number seven. This puts them in the quarterfinals if they perform as expected.
Yet with such a high rating, I don’t think this team will be satisfied with just making it to the quarterfinals. They are the second best team from a major region, even if they are new to the world’s stage.
This is a team that could outperform their spot and threaten for a title. I feel this roster is highly rated enough to go toe to toe with any team in the bracket and contend for a world championship.
3. Tarzan
Griffin gets a big boost from one of the best junglers in the world in Lee “Tarzan” Seung-yong. Tarzan was rated as the number four jungler in our rankings.
He also was one of the top players in the LCK with 300 points and a Player of the Week award to his name during the 2019 Summer Split playoffs, as well as being one of the KDA leaders in the LCK Summer Split. He finished in the top 10 finisher in the LCK MVP race.
He has plenty of weapons to accelerate the game around him with strong laners. Mid laner Chovy was rated as the sixth-best mid lane player at Worlds on our list. In the bottom lane, you have a duo of Viper and Lehends, who also rated highly on our Worlds player rankings.
Any jungler with this amount of talent around him to complement his own should be able to make a lot of noise on the rift. Tarzan is a strong fit for this roster of world-class players and should be able to propel this team to many victories.
