League of Legends Worlds 2019: Group B preview – how do the teams stack up lane by lane?

Most of the attention in this group of mid laners is paid to Doinb, but one thing that stands out in analyzing him is his champ pool. His most-played mid laner during the summer was Nautilus mid. He’s played a bunch of Ryze, Aatrox, Irelia, and Renekton, but only a little bit of Qiyana and no Leblanc or Akali. He’ll be impossible to ban out, but it’s unclear whether his weird champion pool will be a net benefit to FPX.

FoFo is the most solid bet of all these mid laners both because of his stats (which made me rate him the second-best mid at Worlds) and his champ pool. He played the standard stuff like Corki and Azir this summer but also has a bunch of games on Akali and Leblanc (but he is 0-4 on Leblanc, which is quite concerning).

Humanoid, for his part, played a ton of Azir and Corki when they were meta, but once they fell off he basically switched to nothing but Akali. He has been known to break out Sylas, but we’ll have to see if that’s enough to survive group play, especially against such stiff competition.

Unfortunately for GAM, the mid lane is where they can most easily be abused as Kiaya is the second-worst mid laner still remaining at Worlds and his champ pool. He played mostly bruisers like Renekton, Aatrox, and Irelia. Between Leblanc, Syndra, and Akali, Kiaya had only one game combined.

  • Pure power ranking: FoFo > Doinb > Humanoid >> Kiaya
  • If playing Syndra: FoFo > Doinb >> Humanoid >> Kiaya
  • If playing Qiyana: Doinb > FoFo >> Humanoid >> Kiaya
  • If playing Leblanc: Humanoid >> FoFo > Doinb > Kiaya
  • If playing Akali: FoFo > Humanoid >> Doinb > Kiaya
  • If on off-meta mids: Doinb >> Humanoid > FoFo > Kiaya

I would expect the highest priority mid laner in this group to be Akali.
