League of Legends finally nerf Garen in Patch 9.21
Patch update 9.21 is coming soon as League of Legends will finally nerf Garen. Soon, the tactic of spin to win will be a fond memory to all that main the popular top lane champion.
Oh yes ladies and gentlemen, everyone’s favorite head of the Dauntless Vanguard, Garen, is about to get some much needed nerfs. In patch update 9.21, League of Legends will be making some changes to Garen’s kit, mostly to his E – Judgment.
As a Garen main, I’ve noticed too many times where things are just a bit too easy on the top lane when it comes to farming CS and poking enemy champions. Due to this, developers are nerfing Garen’s base damage per spin.
It’ll go from 8/12/16/20/24 to 4/8/12/16/20. In the grand scheme of things, this might seem like it’s a huge nerf but it really isn’t. This is just to give enemy champions the ability to make those that play Garen pay if they extend too much or are caught as they change lanes and are trying to run away in favorable situations.

The damage ratio per spin will go unchanged and that’s a good thing as to not make him too one-dimensional. While this nerf will help keep things even more competitive in the Summoner’s Rift, Garen will still be one of the best champions to use in the top lane. His win percentage might take a slight dip but it likely won’t be anything major.
Garen needed to finally be nerfed as in the early lane phase of competitive matches, he was a bit overpowered. With this change, it’ll allow for a better matchup, even if he’s faced with a champion that he counters well against.
Considering that Garen has now seen significant changes over the last few patch updates, this should be the one that puts him in the exact place League of Legends would like him to be in. A tanky top lane champion than can keep up with the best of them but be balanced enough to make sense in certain situations.
It’s great to see developers continue to tweak original champions like Garen to take those that usually were at the bottom of the charts and in overall popularity and put them in a more balanced, competitive state. Hopefully, this will make those that face him know after these nerfs go live in the game, they at least have a fighting chance and not fall prey to the famous spin to win tactic.
