League of Legends is not a dying game: EUW passes 3 million players
Shortly after its 10th anniversary, League of Legends has something else to celebrate: The EU West server hitting 3 million ranked players!
In a month of exciting announcements about new projects and upcoming Riot Games titles, League of Legends once again proves that it is a goliath of the industry and by no means a dying game.
Earlier today, a Reddit user spotted that the EU West server had surpassed 3,000,000 ranked summoners on op.gg, one of the community’s favorite stat-tracking websites. Reaching this figure means EUW maintains its place as the second most populated League of Legends server, only behind South Korea (3.7 million players).

Here’s how the EUW player base stacks up against other regions’ servers:
- South Korea: 3,776,609
- Europe West: 3,001,822
- North America: 1,755,003
- Europe Nordic & East: 1,548,279
- Brazil: 1,422,180
Towards the end of 2018, the EUW server had about 2.5 million ranked players, meaning over 500,000 European gamers have joined in 2019. With this level of growth, it could be argued that the game is as popular as ever, especially in Europe!
The 2019 World Championship is in full swing with games being held in the European cities of Berlin, Madrid, and Paris. Plus, European League of Legends recently concluded its inaugural LEC season, a rebrand that has widely been considered an enormous success for the European scene. Both of these factors have undoubtedly played a huge part in League’s continued growth throughout the region.
Ultimately we can conclude that claims that League of Legends is “dead” or a “dying game” are completely unfounded and those making the claims should probably check the facts. For a server to still be growing after so long is a very impressive feat, and proves just how popular the game is 10 years after its release.
When will League stop growing? Will we see this level of growth after the game’s 20th anniversary? What do you think? Let us know in the comments!
