League of Legends: Five players we’d love to see in the LEC in 2020
The League of Legends offseason is well underway and there have already been a number of exciting roster moves. Here’s a look at five players who would be the perfect fit for LEC teams in 2020!
Wolf bombs, shock moves, NA $alaries; the League of Legends offseason truly has it all. From Broxah’s transatlantic transfer to Team Liquid to Gen.G’s huge roster announcement, we’ve already been treated to our fair share of roster swaps, but there’ll undoubtedly be a bunch more over the next few weeks and months.
Two LEC teams have already confirmed their starting rosters for the 2020 season – Origen and Rogue – however that leaves eight teams that could still make some surprising moves and shake-ups while we’re just a few days into the free agency period.
Thanks to endless rumors and leaks, high-profile transfers are usually common knowledge far in advance of the teams announcing the deal. That being said, we can still live in hope of these five huge names joining the European fold in 2020 and pushing the region towards its first World Championship trophy since Season 1.
Top Lane: Kim “Ssumday” Chan-ho
2019 was certainly a season to forget for South Korean top laner Kim “Ssumday” Chan-ho. After a dismal Spring Split and a winless start to the Summer Split, Ssumday was benched by the 100 Thieves coaching staff and played nearly a full season alongside the 100T Academy roster, winning the Academy Summer Playoffs (or “Academy Worlds”).
Following the recent announcement that North American jungler William “Meteos” Hartman will be re-joining the team next season, this confirms that two import slots will be available for the other four positions, potentially confirming Ssumday’s place on the 2020 starting line-up. Nevertheless, it’s been a long run without LCS appearances for the top laner which may have resulted in him feeling unsettled at 100T, or the 100T coaching staff looking for new blood for the team.
Therefore, it’s entirely possible that European organizations are eyeing up Ssumday to provide consistency in the top lane, both on carries and tanks. With seven LEC teams yet to confirm their top laners for the 2020 season, we could be seeing Ssumday joining EU over the next few weeks.
Jungle: Lee “Tarzan” Seung-yong
From out of nowhere, one of the most exciting League of Legends rosters of all time was promoted to the LCK in 2018. Since then, GRIFFIN has gone on to upset several huge South Korean esports organizations, finishing 2nd in three consecutive LCK Playoffs, and making an appearances in the World Championship knockout stage.
While it’s clear that a lot of their success is from a team effort revolved around team fighting and mechanically outplaying opponents, this couldn’t be possible without the control Lee “Tarzan” Seung-yong exerts from the jungle position.
Tarzan is your ideal jungler. He dictates the tempo of the early game, shuts out the opposing jungler from finding a gank, guides his team into the mid-game with a gold lead, and can do this on a variety of different champions. If Tarzan is ever searching for a new team, you can bet every big organization in the world would offering him a contract.
Unfortunately, the Korean jungler still has two years left on his GRIFFIN contract, so the chances of seeing Tarzan on the LEC stage any time soon are slim. But with so many European teams looking to complete their rosters in the coming weeks, who knows what could happen?
Mid Lane: Kim “Doinb” Tae-sang
It’s extremely unlikely that a reigning world champion will leave his team so soon after lifting the biggest trophy in League of Legends, but it’s still worth getting excited over the potential of superstar Kim “Doinb” Tae-sang making a move to the LEC during the offseason.
This isn’t specifically about Doinb joining a European team and is more about Doinb joining G2 Esports which has been speculated about over and over due to several Twitter interactions between Doinb and G2 players.
Without a doubt, the South Korean mid laner would fit right in with the personalities and attitudes displayed by G2 both on and off the Rift. But unfortunately, it’s unlikely to happen as the current European champions will want to go into a second season with the same starting roster with hopes of clinching a World Championship success in 2020.
AD Carry: Konstantinos “FORG1VEN” Tzortziou
This one’s been all-but-confirmed by rumors circulating around the community over the last few days, but until his signature’s on the dotted line, we won’t get our hopes up. Konstantinos “FORG1VEN” Tzortziou is one of the biggest personalities in European League of Legends history with a tendency to divide fans and throw out trash talk towards his opponents whenever he feels like it.
FORG1VEN was one of the first EU players to develop a fanbase mainly because of his personality off the Rift and ever since he took a break from competitive play for mandatory military service, the community has been begging for his return to the LEC stage. That wait may finally be over.

According to ESPN sources, FORG1VEN is set to replace Elias “Upset” Lipp as the new AD Carry of Schalke 04 for 2020 along with a new-look S04 roster. With his last competitive appearance coming in the 2018 Spring EU Masters tournament, it will be interesting to see how FORG1VEN fairs in his return to top-level League of Legends next season.
Support: Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle
It’s no secret that G2 Esports’ support has suffered from wrist problems in the past which forced him to miss out on LEC regular season games and scrims throughout 2019. Fortunately, Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle recovered strongly enough to guide his team to two LEC successes, a Mid-Season Invitational trophy, and a World Championship final.
While the current state of Mikyx’s injuries is unknown, we can assume that he’ll continue to play for G2 Esports in 2020 and hopefully go one further and push for a Worlds triumph next season. However, there is a possibility that this injury could return next year and could lead to a spell on the side-lines for the Slovenian support that could be costly for the reigning European champions.
Judging by G2’s decision to let Hampus “promisq” Abrahamsson leave the team, things seem to have cleared up for Miky and we can look forward to him making plays from the support position throughout 2020 and beyond.
