The final patch of 2019 will hit League of Legends live servers on Wednesday! Here’s a breakdown of all the important Patch 9.24 changes.

Patch 9.24 is the 24th and final list of updates to League of Legends in 2019 and the balance team are certainly going out with a bang. One new champion, twelve champion changes, and two major keystone updates make up the final batch of changes for the year and will make the game a much more balanced place for the holiday period!

The most notable addition of the patch is the much-anticipated introduction of Aphelios, the Weapon of the Faithful, who will be added to the game at some point over the next few weeks. We’ve seen him during All-Stars and plenty of PBE gameplay on Twitch and YouTube, but check out this small breakdown of what to expect from the newest arrival to League of Legends.

However, every other change in this week’s patch will be broken down right here, following our preview earlier in the week. Find out how each change on Patch 9.24 could affect the game between now and the new year below:

Champions

Akali

"Q – Five Point Strike Removed: Removed the hitbox behind her. Rank 5 Minion and Monster Damage: 33% bonus magic damage -> 25% bonus magic damage."

The patch notes state that this is a pro-focused change to remove the utility of strong wave clear provided by an oddly-shaped hitbox on Akali’s Q, but the damage reduction can also see the champion lose a bit of power in solo queue.

The assassin thrives when she can quickly clear a wave in mid or a side lane, then roam the map and look for 1v1 duels to build a gold lead and create a numbers advantage on the map. Reducing her bonus Q magic damage to minions by 12% doesn’t completely remove her wave clear, but it will be felt and could result in a few extra auto-attacks being required to clear a wave at certain stages of the game.

Akali currently sits at a rather underwhelming 47.19% win rate in solo queue, which could have you questioning whether this change was necessary. But, as stated in the patch notes, this nerf was more focused on her impact on pro play with exceptional wave clear from a unique Q hitbox. It definitely won’t do her ranked win rate any favors though.

Amumu

"Q – Bandage Toss Cooldown: 12/11/10/9/8 seconds -> 10/9.5/9/8.5/8 seconds."

AP junglers have taken over in recent patches. Ekko, Elise, Nunu, Evelynn can all be spotted towards the higher tiers of the Patch 9.23 jungle tier list, which begs the question: Where’s Amumu?

Well, he’s down to a 48.58% win rate at the moment and is showing no signs of breaking into the meta pool of junglers during preseason. Despite utilizing both high AP ratios and inherent tanky stats with a hybrid AP build, Amumu’s lack of early game damage and vulnerability to invades has junglers avoiding him currently.

Reducing the cooldown of his Q – Bandage Toss is definitely a step in the right direction though. This ability tends to be maxed second, meaning the full effects of this change are felt all the way until Level 13, allowing Amumu to set up ganks, gap close, and lockdown opponents slightly more often throughout the early game.

Braum

"Base Stats Health per Level: 87 -> 98. Health Regen: 8  -> 8.5. W – Stand Behind Me Cooldown: 14/13/12/11/10 -> 12/11/10/9/8. Mana Cost: 50/55/60/65/70 -> 40 at all ranks. Percentage of Braum’s Armor and Magic Resist Granted to Ally: 10/11.5/13/14.5/16% -> 12%. Percentage of Braum’s Armor and Magic Resist Granted to Braum: 10/11.5/13/14.5/16% -> 36%. R – Glacial Fissure Base Damage: 150/250/350 -> 150/300/450."

As stated in our Patch 9.24 preview:

First target knocked up from 1-1.5 seconds at all ranks based on distance from Braum. Every other target hit is knocked up for 0.25 seconds.

More from Blog of Legends

A tonne of buffs for Braum who currently sits at an abysmal 46.24% win rate in solo queue. Let’s just break them down one-by-one.

In terms of base stats, Braum now has an additional 187 Health at Level 18, as well as +0.5 Health Regen at all ranks. This makes Braum beefier at all ranks and gives him slightly more sustain in the laning phase. Nice buff!

As for Braum’s W – Stand Behind Me, this has seen its cooldown reduced by 2 seconds, it’s mana cost reduced by 10, its ally bonus resistances increased by 2%, and its Braum bonus resistances increased by 26%. So, as you can tell, his W has been buffed quite significantly and makes Braum MUCH tankier for 3 seconds whenever he casts the spell. Very nice buff!

R – Glacial Fissure will have its damage increased later in the game and its single target knockup increased if the champion is far away from Braum. This is, once again, a nice buff for Braum players.

All in all, Braum is much stronger, and these buffs should see the champion climb from a near 45% win rate to above 50% due to the number of buffs he’s received. The W buffs are particularly strong as this is an ability that’s maxed last, so Braum receives a massive 26% increase to his resistances very early in the game.

While he won’t be S tier on Patch 9.24, Braum is definitely one to watch out for in the coming weeks and months of preseason.
