We take a look at how the League of Legends top lane meta changed after Patch 9.24.

After a patch to adjust to the new Elemental Dragons and Rift, Riot unleashed the first “real” patch of the preseason in Patch 9.24. The last patch of League of Legends Season 9, let’s take a look at the state of top lane.

A quick programming note: going forward we will be placing the full methodology of our tier list picks at the end of these articles. We will also be eliminating the B+ tier going forward, as we do not feel distinguishing these picks from B tier is as useful as the A+/A tier distinction.

Observations

There is actually a fair amount of diversity in the top lane meta at the moment. Among the top 10 champions in the role, we have one tank, four fighters, two specialists, and three divers.

One class that is definitely not doing well, however, is mages. The highest-rated mage in the top lane, Vladimir, is only 14th and a high-B tier pick.

The biggest drop in our ranking from last patch belongs to Garen, who fell to low-A tier all the way from S tier. He had the highest win rate last patch at 52.8%. In Patch 9.24, it dropped to 49.1% thanks to some pretty serious nerfs.

On the other hand, Cassiopeia had the biggest rise in her position on our tier list in Patch 9.24, going to high-C tier from middle-D tier. However, her win rate in the role remained stable at 52.5%.

Even though he’s in the F tier, Viktor actually has the highest win rate among top laners (53.7%). He’s joined in that tier by the least-winning top laner, Sylas, at a 45.6% win rate.
