We take a look at the League of Legends support meta in Patch 9.24b.

A few supports got buffed in Patch 9.24b but the hook and engage champions remain supreme. We examine which are the best and worst support champions for you to play in League of Legends as the preseason continues.

Observations

More from Blog of Legends

  • No real big changes to the top of the support meta. However, the top 10 remains quite diverse with two tanks (Leona and Nautilus), four catchers (Blitz, Thresh, Bard, and Rakan), and three enchanters (Soraka, Senna, and Janna). The only mage, Morgana, is also in the catcher category so there are no pure mage supports in the top 10.
  • The champion who improved the most in Patch 9.24b is Yuumi, who made it out of the F tier to mid-D tier. On the other hand, Neeko fell out of the D tier all the way down to the F tier, the biggest drop in our ranking this patch.
  • Janna currently has the best win rate among supports in Patch 9.24b at 53.1% (with a 4.7% pick rate). Unfortunately, Tahm Kench has taken over the position of having the worst win rate in the role at 44.8% (and a win rate of just under 1%).

Buffed Champions

Alistar

The buff to his base stats and the heal on his passive didn’t help the big cow too much. Alistar’s win rate continues to hover around 48.5-49% and unfortunately, he remains in the D tier for the second-straight patch.

Nerfed Champions

Shaco

Riot is definitely aware that AP support Shaco has become something of a nuisance, as they pointed it out in the patch notes themselves. The damage nerfs to his E – Two-Shiv Poison dropped him out of the high-A tier all the way to the high-B tier, one of the largest drops in our ranking for supports. However, Shaco still has a win rate in the top five as a support, currently at a 52.5% win rate.

Methodology: These rankings were determined by finding the average standardized score of a champion from nine different tier lists from sites around the internet. This is done by assigning a certain weight to each different score, rank, or grade given by these sites (for instance, both a “Diamond” rating and “A” grade would be worth a 90 score). The standardized score is then determined by looking at the average score given to all champions in every role by that site as well as the standard deviation of scores given (so that sites that give out more high grades will not have their As be worth the same as a site that gives out very few high grades).

The full, underlying data can be found here. This link also includes the full listing of how the scores are assigned. Champions must be rated by at least half of the sites audited in order to qualify for our tier list.
