League of Legends: Riot Games Revealed a Ton About Future Champions
By Josh Tyler
Riot Games dropped a ton of information about the upcoming League of Legends champion releases and updates. Here is everything we learned.
On the day of the release of Sett, the newest League of Legends champion, Riot Games took the opportunity to pull back the curtain a bit more on their path forward for champion designs and reworks in 2020. We learned a lot more about the two future champions to be updated – Fiddlesticks and Volibear – as well as some teases about the champions we could be seeing in the future! Here is everything we found out from today’s video.
Sett
For those of you who don’t know Sett’s lore, it’s pretty freaking cool. He’s a pit fighter from Ionia who started from the streets to become the Boss (literally) of the region’s underground.
In-game, he’s a juggernaut and most players are speculating that he’ll likely be a top laner or jungler on release. For those of you strapped for blue essence, never fear! If you impressed Sett by earning the achievement “Sett’s Calling Card” you will unlock him for free!

Fiddlesticks rework
We also got our first look at the Fiddlesticks rework that is coming later this year. According to Riot, Fiddlesticks will retain the fear mechanic that he currently has in some capacity but they’re also doubling-down on his horror thematic.
The reveal post mentions giving Fiddle players more opportunities to set up their game-changing ult so probably there will be some invisibility element to his new kit. My guess is that he’s going to have his ult amped up to ten and maybe have a similar shrouding effect like Nocturne‘s ult.
Volibear rework
There wasn’t quite as much detail about the Volibear rework from Riot Games, other than letting us know that he’s going to be more “savage” in his rework. As a Voli main, I really hope they lean into his “Thunder God” theme more than his current kit does.
Riot also noted that players are somewhat disappointed that the reworked version won’t lean into that Eldritch horror concept of Volibear from the lore story Silence for the Damned. Lucky for fans of that story, Riot Games will be making a skin based on that theme, which will be free for all players who own or buy Volibear on his rework’s release. So if you’re a fan of this aesthetic, it might be time to save up your blue essence!
Future reworks
Riot also noted that these two reworks, which were chosen by League of Legends players, have inspired them to continue giving players a hand in future champion reworks. To that end, Riot announced that later this year, there will be another poll to decide which champion will be set for a rework in 2021!
I think this is an absolutely fantastic idea for Riot to put control of which champions get reworked into players’ hands since it gives the community a chance to voice their opinion about which champions are outdated or problematic. As a reminder, the three other champions in the running for a rework during the last poll were Shyvana, Dr. Mundo, and Nocturne, with Shyvana receiving the most votes. It’s a good bet those three will be back in the running for a rework soon!
Champion teases
Finally, Riot teased a few champions that we will be seeing this year that are brand new to League of Legends. Those include at least one champion we’ve seen in the lore (so let that wide speculation commence) and two champions that will be tied to a League of Legends event this summer. Those will include a blossoming jungler (related to Zyra perhaps?) and a masked stranger who “refuses to die” (sort of a Tryndamere/Jhin hybrid?).
Regardless, I’m super hyped for all these new champions in the future and more. Since Riot confirmed even more champions coming this year, it’s likely that these three won’t be the last ones we see! Let us know in the comments which new or reworked champion you’re most excited for!
