TFT Patch 10.3 Preview: A Lot of Small Changes to a Diverse Meta
By Josh Tyler
Patch 10.3 will drop next week so we are previewing the big changes that will be coming to TFT.
Patch 10.2 has been a fairly balanced comp with Poison, Berserkers, Rangers, Infernos, and Mages all having some level of success in the current TFT meta. However, Patch 10.3 threatens to flip this comp on its head. As we preview the changes that have come on the PBE, remember that all these changes are unconfirmed and are subject to change before the patch goes final.
Trait Changes
Assassins
"(3) Crit chance 65% ⇒ 70% (6) Crit chance 225% ⇒ 210%"
Summoner/Assassin and Full Assassin/Desert comps are fairly solid in the meta right now, so a bit of extra crit chance to the Assassin comps could help bolster their power in the meta. This really raises the profile of the two best Assassins, Kha’Zix and Zed, in Patch 10.3.

This will also make Titan’s Resolve a bit of a more attractive item for Assassins since it gains stacks with more crits. Higher crit chance leads to more stacks, leads to the max bonus damage and the bonus resistances sooner. Right now it’s primarily built on tanks and I expect it could stay there, but maybe the extra crit chance changes that calculus.
Light
"(3) Attack speed 15% ⇒ 20% (6) Attack speed 35% ⇒ 30% (9) Attack speed 55% ⇒ 50%"
So this is a buff early at the expense of a late game nerf. Six Light comps tend to not be as common in the current meta and this nerf will probably further that trend, but 3 Light still has a fairly solid place with Summoners (building around Yorick) or if you manage to hit a 3-star Vayne.
Unfortunately, if 3 Light becomes the only really good option, it’s probably going to mean that champions like Nasus, Aatrox, and Lucian all drop in priority absent some other changes. It might even mean that Talisman of Light is needed (putting it on Azir is quite common now for Light + Summoners) to make the trait viable.
Shadow
"(6) Increased damage 175% ⇒ 165%"
3 Shadow is currently a very strong synergy, especially paired with 3 Inferno if you build around Kindred, but I’ve always felt that 6 Shadow is a trap comp. It requires players to build some non-optimal units in the meta (Senna and Veigar in particular) without the things that make them not terrible. For instance, Senna needs to be paired with Lucian and Veigar needs tons of items to be not-terrible in a meta.
As a result, I don’t think the 6 Shadow nerf does anything. It’s not a great comp to build in almost any circumstance.
