6. Immortals (7 – 7)

The final team in the 7-7 soup is Immortals after a 1-1 Week 7. This week is put up or shut up for this squad with crucial match-ups against FlyQuest and TSM.

Immortals have already defeated TSM this split but failed to find a win over FlyQuest in their previous meeting. Both of these teams sit just one place and one win above IMT in the standings, making success in Week 8 vital if Immortals want to secure a higher playoff seed.

A 1-1 weekend gives them a good chance to at least stay in the playoff hunt, a 2-0 could move them up to the fight for the second and third seeds, and a 0-2 will put them in an incredibly difficult position heading into Week 9.

Winning both games in a week is never easy, but with Evil Geniuses and Dignitas awaiting Immortals in Week 9 (whom Immortals have yet to beat this year), it will be a very difficult task to overcome a poor showing this weekend.

7. Golden Guardians (6 – 8)

At 6-8 we have two teams, the first of which is Golden Guardians coming off the back of a 1-1 Week 7 performance featuring a win over Dignitas and a loss to Cloud9.

In order to reach what seems to be the magic number of wins for making playoffs in most LCS splits (9), GGS will have to win three of their final four games. Unfortunately, on their remaining schedule are TSM and FlyQuest, two teams Golden Guardians have failed to beat in the Spring Split so far.

Golden Guardians will have a chance to impact the playoff race, though, with a Week 8 fixture against Team Liquid. In Week 3, GGS triumphed over TL and will be hoping to do so again in order to keep their playoffs dreams alive and possibly ending the defending champions’ chances of finishing in the top six.

8. Team Liquid (6 – 8)

Speaking of Team Liquid, a fifth consecutive LCS trophy will have been the target at the start of the season, but it now looks unlikely following a disappointing 0-2 Week 7.

Like Golden Guardians, Liquid will require a 3-1 or 4-0 record to have the smallest chance of clinching a playoff qualification spot at the end of Week 9. If they fail to beat either Golden Guardians or Evil Geniuses in Week 8, then it’s pretty much lights out for the defending LCS champions, even if they do manage to beat FlyQuest or Cloud9 in the final week of the split.

9. Dignitas (5 – 9)

Next is Dignitas at 5-9 who are heading into Week 8 on a streak of five straight losses, but somehow still in contention for the playoff places.

If they miraculously achieve a 4-0 finish to the split, Dignitas will have a 9-9 record which just might be enough to sneak into the playoffs. But, to do that they’ll need to overcome CLG, Evil Geniuses, Immortals, and TSM. It’s not impossible – especially with their 3-1 record against those teams so far – but suffering a single loss will spell the end for Dignitas’ Spring Split.

10. Counter Logic Gaming (3 – 11)

Counter Logic Gaming is 3-11 after a 1-1 Week 7. Seven is also the maximum number of wins this team can finish with in the Spring Split which is not going to be enough to qualify for playoffs as six teams already have seven or more wins to their name.

They can, however, play spoiler in the race for playoffs with games against Golden Guardians and 100 Thieves on the horizon, as well as a potential playoff elimination match against Dignitas in Week 8.

The LCS “soup” remains alive and well heading into Week 8. With one team in and one team out of playoffs, we haven’t made any real progress towards narrowing down the pile yet. But that’s all set to change this weekend!
