TFT Comps: 5 Champions that Fit the Best Comps in Patch 10.9
By Josh Tyler
Halfway through Patch 10.9, we look at the best champions in Teamfight Tactics and the best TFT comps that you can build around them.
It’s been a whirlwind of change in Patch 10.9, with comps like Candyland, Willy Wonka, Space Jam, and Shredder all taking over the game. Meanwhile, the old standbys like Mech-Pilots, Blaster/Brawler, and Cybernetic are still solid comps. If you’re unsure which of these comps are the easiest to get this patch, build around these five champions so you’ll be able to transition to one of the best TFT comps with ease.
1. Miss Fortune
She can fit into just about any comp thanks to her Valkyrie synergy with both Kayle and Kai’Sa (both of whom are centerpieces to strong comps in Patch 10.9)

Build MF when:Â You have Valkyries
Key Items: Seraph’s Embrace, Deathcap
Other items that work:Â Morellonomicon, Hand of Justice, QSS
Comps for Miss Fortune:
- Blaster/Brawler: MF (*), Jinx (*), Ezreal, Graves, Cho’Gath (*), Blitzcrank, Malphite, Vi
- Chrono/Blademaster: MF (*), Kayle (*), Shen, Xayah, Kassadin, Thresh, Ezreal, Wukong
- Cybernetic: MF (*), Irelia (*), Leona, Lucian, Vi, Ekko, Fiora
2. Cho’Gath
Probably the best front liner you can have in Patch 10.9, he’s great to hold almost any defensive items and is extremely versatile.
Build Cho when:Â You have defensive items
Key Items: Ionic Spark, Warmog’s Armor
Other items that work:Â Bramble Vest, Death Claw
Comps for Cho’Gath:
- Blaster/Brawler: MF (*), Jinx (*), Ezreal, Graves, Cho’Gath (*), Blitzcrank, Malphite, Vi
- Void/Printer: Sona (*), Vel’Koz (*), Cho’Gath, Kha’Zix, Malphite, Vi, Blitzcrank
3. Kayle
Similar to Miss Fortune, she can slot into the comps with other Valkyries and she has a few TFT comps that are centered around her.
Build Kayle when:Â You have attack speed items and are building some Blademasters.
Key Items: Guinsoo’s Rageblade, Guardian Angel
Other items that work:Â Hand of Justice, Death Cap, QSS, Rapid Fire Cannon
Comps for Kayle:
- Chrono/Blademaster: MF (*), Kayle (*), Shen, Xayah, Kassadin, Thresh, Ezreal, Wukong
- Mech/Infil: Rumble (*), Fizz, Annie, Shaco, Kai’Sa (*), Ekko, Kayle
4. Vel’Koz
While most people think about the Sorcerer comps as being built around the Star Guardians (like the Candyland comp), Vel’Koz is the most versatile Sorcerer that you can have. You can easily pivot him into a Void or Star Guardian comp with a lot of effect.
Build Vel’Koz when: You have raw AP and can have at least one other Sorcerer.
Key Items: Morellonomicon
Other items that work:Â Death Cap, QSS, Gunblade, Guardian Angel
Comps for Vel’Koz:
- Void/Printer: Sona (*), Vel’Koz (*), Cho’Gath, Kha’Zix, Malphite, Vi, Blitzcrank
- Candyland: Poppy (*), Twisted Fate (*), Wukong, Zoe, Ahri, Lux, Vel’Koz, Xerath/Ahri
- Mech/Infil: Rumble (*), Fizz, Annie, Shaco, Vel’Koz, Gangplank, Lux, Xerath
5. Blitzcrank
Another unexpected one, but once again with Blasters/Brawlers being such a strong foundation comp, Blitzcrank will always be a good pick early. Later on, you can also transition him to a Kayle/Chrono comp if the items shake out that way.
Build Blitzcrank when:Â You can and have some defensive items (he can also be a good placeholder just to hold the items to sell them later).
Key Items:Â None
Other items that work: Warmog’s Armor, Spear of Shojin, Thieves Gloves
Comps for Blitzcrank:
- Void/Printer: Sona (*), Vel’Koz (*), Cho’Gath, Kha’Zix, Malphite, Vi, Blitzcrank
- Blaster/Brawler: MF (*), Jinx (*), Ezreal, Graves, Cho’Gath (*), Blitzcrank, Malphite, Vi
