League of Legends: Three new champions teased in Champion Roadmap
The latest Champion Roadmap update has teased three new champions
New champions define what League of Legends is all about. Crazy, innovative mechanics, incredible animations, and intriguing lore updates are often the only thing the player base is interested in. And it’s that time again as just one week after the release of the Volibear rework, three new champions have been teased by the developers in the latest Champion Roadmap update.
In the update, lead champion producer Ryan “Reav3” Mireles talks about the development team’s goal to release six champions per year, one for each role, to ensure every player receives a “mini-expansion pack” for League of Legends, while also updating old champions to a more modern state. Reav3 also confirmed that Dr. Mundo will be the next champion to receive a visual gameplay update (VGU), scheduled for early 2021, following in the footsteps of Fiddlesticks and Volibear.
In terms of the next three champions to be released in League of Legends, each was given a mini-preview on the Champion Roadmap update which offered some hints of their role, playstyle, and lore. Although very little information is known right now, we can speculate about what to expect from all three of the champions, particularly the two that are set to be released during a “big summer event” next month.
The update revealed that two new champions will be released next month

The first champion is set to be a jungler that excels at mid-range skirmishes by “frolicking in and out of the fray”. Judging by the theme of the preview, the new champion will have a childish nature, similar to Lulu, and is likely to utilize the Sleep mechanic introduced with Zoe almost three years ago. It is also said that the jungler is “quite shy” but will “prance into action” if startled, possibly suggesting that they’ll receive a movement speed buff when in range of enemy champions.
Next month will also see the release of a second champion, an assassin with a dark, mysterious theme. The image on the Champion Roadmap page doesn’t reveal much about the gender, origin, or shape of the upcoming champion, but it is hinted that the assassin will have two forms and two weapons. At first glance, the second champion could be mistaken for Kayn, a champion that also offers two forms.
Finally, there’s another marksman heading our way later this year and it already has a teaser GIF on the Champion Roadmap, a sequence of seven letters: F, E, D, L, B, A, S, the last of which surrounded by red, pulsating fire-like graphics. This could suggest that the new marksman will have a SEVEN-hit passive on one of their abilities, or if Aphelios is anything to go by, seven abilities.
The mini-preview makes reference to the fact that the new champion will “laugh in the face of danger” and enjoys creating “stylish new combos” with a “whirlwind of blades and bullets”. Ultimately, this is very little to go on, but there’s no reason not to get hyped, especially if you’re an ADC main.
Two of the three champions are set to be released next month with a big, summer event. While we know very little about the new releases right now, be sure to keep a close eye on developments over the coming weeks as we will undoubtedly receive more information leading up to the full champion reveals.
