Teamfight Tactics Set 5 is now live on PBE and players everywhere are already getting their hands on the new units and experimenting with comps. After a couple of days of playing, some units have stood out enough that it’s time to create a (very) early tier list of every Set 5 champion!

Please note that this tier list probably will change before Set 5 goes live at the start of Patch 11.9. The team at Riot is still balancing the units and some of them are very likely to get buffed and nerfed. However, if you’re on the PBE and still not sure what champions to play, here’s the (very) early tier list.

Tier 1

More from Blog of Legends

  • Darius
  • Garen
  • Yasuo
  • Kayle
  • Vel’Koz
  • Riven
  • Viego
  • Draven
  • Nidalee

All of these champions are extremely viable as the primary carry on a team. These tend to be late-game carry units like Darius, Garen, and Kayle, or champions you can look to slow roll like Yasuo and Riven.

Tier 2

  • Jax
  • Taric
  • Morgana
  • Nautilus
  • Volibear
  • Leona
  • Kindred
  • Ryze
  • Rell

These are the very strong utility champions. While they aren’t designed to be the primary carry (other than perhaps Morgana and Ryze), they offer a lot of crowd control and/or can soak a lot of damage.

Tier 3

  • Lux
  • Aatrox
  • Mordekaiser
  • Karma
  • Aphelios
  • Nocturne
  • Lee Sin
  • Warwick
  • Vladimir
  • Diana
  • Heimerdinger
  • Ivern

In this tier, there are the more item-dependent carries (Karma, Aphelios, Diana) and carries with more situational traits (Heimerdinger, Ivern). These units are probably better served as your secondary carry unless you get the proper items on them. For instance, Aphelios with Deathblade and Karma with Jeweled Gauntlet become massively better units than without them.

Tier 4

  • Kha’Zix
  • Gragas
  • Pantheon
  • Ashe
  • Thresh
  • Soraka
  • Brand
  • Vayne
  • Kalista

The lower-cost secondary carries. Like the Karmas in Tier 3, these champions can be viable secondary carries (or strong utility units) but they probably need to be 3-starred and get solid items to be considered as the primary carry.

Tier 5

  • Zyra
  • Nunu
  • Trundle
  • Ziggs
  • Lulu
  • Sejuani
  • Syndra
  • Sett
  • Poppy
  • Varus

Unviable carries, these are “filler” units. They’re fine to put in your comp, but please don’t waste an item on these units.

Tier 6

  • Leblanc
  • Hecarim
  • Udyr
  • Lissandra
  • Kennen
  • Kled

And finally, the refuse at the bottom of the heap. These should never be purchased unless they are essential to the comp you are running.
