Tanks looking to get major update in next big League patch
League of Legends continues to rework champions and also fix class groups when needed. It looks like tanks are next up on the agenda.
Make no mistake about it, tanks in League of Legends need some love, too. In the last major patch update, Assassins were fixed to better balance the game. In their recent developer update blog, League has revealed that they’ll be doing the same to tanks.
Mostly assigned in top lane, tanks are incredibly important in the Fields of Justice since a bad one can tilt the game completely in favor of the enemy. The problem is, to make them sustainable, especially during long matches, is making it hard for Summoners to make tanking champions their mains.
In a /dev update written by Reav3, here is what he had to say about the direction League is going in with tanks:

"I’m happy to announce that the next class update we are going to tackle will be beefiest class to date, Tanks! While we will systematically be looking into the Tank class as a whole, we will be primarily focusing our kit work on initiating tanks, which we call Vanguards. We want to give tanks more mastery and skill expression, as well as unique identities."
Vanguards? Now that sounds pretty awesome right off the bat. It’s hard to tell exactly what will go down but needless to say, those that love playing tanks are undoubtedly excited for what the future brings.
If League can somehow keep tanks being able to take tons of damage but also have a slightly more damage output, that would be the ideal situation. At this point in time, tanks pretty much stay the same throughout a match but in longer matches, don’t separate themselves from the rest.

Overall, this next big update to tanks should continue to balance the game even further. It’s about time in the grand scheme of things since if they can make tanks more exciting to Summoners, they will see a nice surge of players not regretting playing such a role.
