The new Runes Reforged update is hitting League of Legends in November of this year.

In case you haven’t heard, the entire rune system in League of Legends is getting a massive update in November 2017. The old system will be replaced with a brand new one as the update, Runes Reforged, will bring an entirely new dynamic in the Summoner’s Rift.

From new paths, all runes being free for everyone regardless of level, and the ability to even use Poros as wards, this new update is going to be amazing. Runes will have a significant impact on gameplay as the unique styles and customization that will be available should make for a new experience every single time you go up against another Summoner.

Lead Gameplay Designer Meddler answered the question as to when this update would drop via the Nexus’s “Ask Riot!” section. Here’s what he said below:

"There’s still some stuff to figure out here, but we’re targeting November 2017. So sometime after the end of the ranked season and Worlds."

This new update is going to dramatically change League of Legends so it makes perfect sense to drop it right after Worlds 2017 and when the season is over for Summoners. There will be hiccups but in the grand scheme of things, this will only make the game even better.

Some of the biggest problems that have hit runes over the past few years are that for the most part, it’s an uneven playing field for new players that join friends in the Summoner’s Rift. Due to the different grades of runes, lesser quality ones are available for new players and if they go up against someone that is already Level 30, it’s hard to keep up since they’ll obviously have higher grade runes and be at an advantage.

Another issue is that runes, in general, don’t significantly alter gameplay as developers had hoped. Let’s face it, everyone has different play styles but that wasn’t reflected in the current state of runes. Tanky players or those that enjoy dishing out burst damage, couldn’t put specific runes to achieve their desired style of play. Instead, they would opt to have META runes depending on what champions they played as and well, it’s a copy-and-paste formula that doesn’t exactly bring a variety of unique gameplay to matches.

But now, Runes Reforged should address that and other issues to bring the system back to a place where it will foster even more competitiveness by players. Get ready since once November hits, this will easily be one of the biggest and most important updates to ever hit League of Legends.
