Besides funding the World 2017 prize pool, purchases of the Championship Ashe skin in League of Legends will also help three specific charities.

In life, it’s always good to give back to those less fortunate. The truth of the matter is, across all parts of the world, many have mental illnesses, don’t have ways to get an education, and don’t even have access to a basic computer to experience how great technology can be. League of Legends is a global phenomenon and well, they’re using one of the biggest Esports tournaments in the world as a way to give back to the community via three specific charities.

The new Championship Ashe skin is amazing and well worth the 1,350 Riot Points. The great news is, League of Legends will match 25 percent of all Championship Ashe sales to form a charity fund. At some point over the next few weeks, there will be an opportunity for Summoners with high Honor levels to vote towards which charity will get 50 percent of the total pool.

The remaining amount will equally be split between the other two amazing charities. Speaking of charities, the three that have been selected by League of Legends are BasicNeeds, Learning Equality, and The Raspberry Pi Foundation.

All three are wonderful charities with each focusing on specific needs to give back to those that need it. BasicNeeds is all about dealing with mental illness while promoting mental health and support. Learning Equality focuses on bringing education to communities that deal with poverty and a lack of technology. The Raspberry Pi Foundation helps bring low-cost computers to those that need it and has areas specifically designed to teach kids how to code.

Those that have a high Honor level will ultimately have the final say as to which charity they are most passionate about but either way, every charity will get some great funding to help their specific cause.

Expect to see the voting process be featured both via the in-game client as well as the official website for League of Legends. To see the company do this speaks volumes about their impact in the community and why it’s important to remember that even a video game can do its part to help impact the lives of those that need it.

Overall, whether you love Ashe or not, purchasing her new Championship skin is doing much more than celebrating another amazing Worlds tournament. It’s all about bringing some much-needed awareness to several issues across the world that if we all do our part, can make life much easier for those that don’t have opportunities to do so.
