Every team in the LCS has one big question going into Summer 2020.

As the Summer Split approaches, LCS teams are gearing up for a split unlike any they’ve ever experienced. With uncertainty still lingering due to COVID-19, teams don’t know whether they will be playing all, most, or just some of the split online, let alone if the playoffs and finals will be played on stage. That said, every team has their own, internal question as Summer 2020 approaches.

100 Thieves

Question: How’s Ssumday’s back?

100 Thieves figure to lean heavily on their superstar top laner Kim “Ssumday” Chan-ho, as he was their highest-rated player on our Summer 2020 player ranking. While the team has some decent complementary pieces in jungler William “Meteos” Hartman and bot laner Cody “Cody Sun” Sun, neither has shown that they can consistently be relied upon.

This means that Ssumday is likely going to be the team’s win condition in most games. As the meta is now shifting to be more bottom lane-centric, there is concern that Ssumday might not be able to win hard enough to pull pressure from Cody Sun and support William “Stunt” Chen, who was one of the team’s weak points last split.

Cloud9

Question: Will they lose a game?

C9 is coming off the most dominant split maybe in LCS history, losing only twice on their way to the Spring Split Championship. I don’t think anyone who is seriously analyzing the LCS would pick against C9 to win after the performance they just put on. There is a legitimate argument to be made that this team might run the table in Summer 2020 and not lose a single game. They came very close last split and I don’t see anyone seriously challenging them for that title.
