Viego, the newest champion in League of Legends, had his abilities released.

Today’s livestream to kick off the start of Season 11 had a lot of information about the new champions and new skins that will be dropping this year. The biggest news, by far, was the reveal of the newest champion Viego, who was teased to drop sometime later this month. But not even hours after the livestream ended, Viego’s abilities have been put up on the League of Legends site.

Billed as a new jungler, Viego is going to be a melee, sword-wielding fighter or assassin who rises from the Black Mist to fight those in the light of the lanes. Let’s break down all of Viego’s abilities.

More from Blog of Legends

"Passive – Sovereign’s DominationViego can temporarily possess enemy champions he helps kill, healing for a portion of their max health. During possession, Viego’s items, attacks, and non-ultimate abilities become those of his slain enemy’s, and he gains a free cast of his own ultimate, Heartbreaker. While possessing an enemy, Viego also gets bonus movement speed when moving toward enemy champions."

Okay, so we’re just wildin’ out right off the jump, huh? Viego’s passive is that he can possess enemies he takes down (kills or assists in killing), which heals him, lets him cast their abilities except for his ult, which he can cast for free. He’s like the inverse of Sylas ult or just a better Neeko passive, as he can actually cast abilities of the enemies he is copying/possessing.

"Q – Blade of the Ruined KingPassive: Viego’s attacks deal a percent of the target’s current health as bonus damage on-hit. When Viego attacks an enemy he recently hit with an ability, the attack strikes twice. The second strike siphons health from the target instead of dealing regular damage, but still applies on-hit effects and can critically strike. This passive is maintained during possession.Active: Viego stabs forward with his blade, damaging all enemies hit."

This ability is bonkers for dueling and clearing single-target camps. If you combo this ability properly, you should be able to animation cancel one auto and immediately attack twice afterward. On top of that, doing so will also heal you for a percentage of the target’s health.

"W – Spectral MawViego charges up and then dashes forward, hurling a blast of mist that stuns and damages the first enemy hit. Stun duration and mist range increase with charge time, damage and dash range don’t."

Everyone who complained about Camille having too much utility in her kit, we give you Viego. A ranged stun to go along with a dash means Viego has insane engage range. That’s going to make him a very powerful ganker.

"E – Harrowed PathViego spreads a wave of Black Mist around a nearby wall. While in the mist, Viego becomes Camouflaged and gains Attack Speed and Movement Speed."

Another powerful ganking tool, Viego can suddenly emerge from the shadows near walls with extra speed to set up his gank. In the clip, we see that the mist takes up an entire pathway within the jungle and spreads around the wall. With this area to move about in camoflage, Viego is going to be almost impossible to track.

"R – HeartbreakerViego discards any bodies he is currently possessing and teleports forward, attacking the enemy champion in range with the lowest percent health and dealing bonus damage based on their missing health. Other enemies in range are knocked away."

So it seems that Viego can’t cast his ultimate without activating his passive, meaning that he needs to secure a kill or assist to use it. Once Viego has his ultimate, though, it’s an incredibly powerful tool to both close the gap and also provide some CC in teamfights.

Overall Impression

Viego is going to be an extremely mobile and deadly assassin/duelist jungler. His kit provides a fairly high skill cap but also has a relatively low skill floor. I think he will be one of the top junglers in the meta when he goes live.
