Annie, the Dark Child, is one of the best champions for newer players to learn the fundamentals of League of Legends. With a straight-forward kit that also provides great utility in teamfights, any player at any level can make use of having Annie in their champion pool. This guide is therefore designed to help beginner players who are looking to pick up Annie in their games.

From runes and items to tips for gameplay and laning, this guide is based off the recommendations of high-elo Annie players, their guides, and tricks from the Annie champion subreddit. Again, these tips and tricks are geared more towards newer players to Annie, so be sure to check out those high-elo players for a more in-depth guide.

Summoner Spells

Flash/Ignite

This is probably the standard Summoner Spell combo for Annie, as it lets you Flash and ult into fights while dropping your Ignite for maximum damage.

Flash/Teleport

This combo is better for instances where you don’t think you have a lot of kill pressure early (meaning you’re not going for a full combo at Level 6) or you think you’re going to be punished in lane and will need to TP back at least once.

Keystone Runes

Electrocute

If you’re taking Flash/Ignite, you’re probably taking Electrocute as well to maximize your damage output. For minor runes in the Domination tree, go either Cheap Shot or Taste of Blood, Eyeball Collection, and Relentless Hunter. Take Sorcery as your secondary rune tree.

Arcane Comet

This is a fairly common rune that lets Annie go into the Sorcery tree (where she can get more mana and better engage with Nimbus Cloak). For the lane, it’s not as good unless you’re facing a melee/short ranged champion.

With Arcane Comet, take Manaflow Band or Nimbus Cloak, Absolute Focus, and Gathering Storm as your minor runes. You can take Resolve as your secondary rune tree.

Summon Aery

Another common keystone in the Sorcery tree, it might seem odd to take a Rune that is most often taken by supports, but Annie’s short range means Aery will return to her more quickly. Also, now that you can but your Molten Shield on allies, it’s easy to proc Aery off all your abilities. For the minor runes, take the same that you did with Arcane Comet, but take Precision secondary runes instead of Resolve.
