Will Hullbreaker be the catalyst that pushes the League of Legends into a new meta?

There’s been a lot of talk and anticipation surrounding Riot’s plans to add an item that will reward players for split pushing, well that talk is over. Finally, in patch 11.13 we’ll be receiving that item in the form “Hullbreaker.”

Players on the PBE have already been saying that the new item is “absolutely busted.” For those that don’t know the item grants players 20-45 increased armor and magic resist to players without any allies nearby. It also reinforces your large minions with 60-135 armor and magic resist. Both you and your reinforced minions get a bonus 200% damage to towers which is where the item really shines.

This’ll have heavy implications on the Top Lane and will without a doubt become one of the most sought-after tank items in the game. In 11.13 there’ll be a lot of item tweaks thanks to Riot’s mobility nerf, the pace of the game will be taking a turn and it’s very likely that the tank role will be back at the top of the totem.

Hullbreaker makes tank players extremely scary. The increased armor and magic resistance helps bolster your defense against anyone attempting to burst you down for venturing out on your own. Although, smart teams will normally dive on an overextending champion in groups the 1v1 will heavily lean in your favor.

This will also make objective trades a little more interesting thanks to the increased turret damage. If your team is clearly losing out on Dragon and your top laner is split-pushing while the enemy team is located on the bottom of the map you may be able to trade that one objective for one or maybe two turrets if you’re lucky. The enemy will be forced to either check you or give up turrets so a constant eye will need to be on the tank.

Hullbreaker couldn’t have come at a better time. We’ll need to see how the item translates on both a casual and pro-level, but without a doubt, there will be some big changes to the game as we know it.
