What makes Team Liquid such a dominant team in League of Legends?
The Spring split of the LCS is now well underway as it enters its fourth week of contention and yet, only one team remains undefeated. So, where exactly can this success be attributed to which is making Team Liquid such a dominant League of Legends team?
Team Liquid boast with their 6-0 record and are looking stellar in all areas of League of Legends gameplay. As of right now, they are the heavy favorites to emerge at the top of the LCS spring split. What factors make them so dominant?
1. Objective/Vision Control
It may be a tad bit ironic that after so many people shunned him for his smiting capabilities many years ago when Jake Kevin “Xmithie” Puchero was a part of CLG, that he be getting universal acclaim for his objective control today on Team Liquid.

Now whether that is due to Xmithie’s own self-improvement, subsequent coaching, improved synergy with new teammates, or even a mix of all of these elements, regardless, the self-discipline he has shown is now paying off in wonders for him and his team.
Xmithie definitely receives some help in the objective and vision control department as well and it is most certainly a team-based effort, so each party deserves credit.
In the current League of Legends meta, major objectives such as Baron Nashor and Elder Dragon can be deciding factors in winning a game and perhaps even more important than the buff itself, is being the team who controls them and there is no team which is doing that better right now in the LCS than Team Liquid.
2. Team Depth
Another and equally as important aspect of Team Liquid’s success lies in their team depth. With two former world champions in Korean players CoreJJ and Impact, along with some of North America’s all-time greats in Doublelift, Jensen, and Xmithie, these players combine to create the powerhouse we are seeing in Team Liquid this split.
If you look around the league right now, the majority, if not all of the teams are currently in the process of rebuilding and trying to find balance among each other by bringing in new talent from the challenger scene or from other regions.
There is nothing wrong with rebuilding a team and this concept is a product which spans across all sports avenues.
However, when you have a team which carries five seasoned veterans who are all known for their stellar performance, your result is the Team Liquid team we see today.
The success we are seeing cannot all be attributed to throwing a bunch of top tier talent on a team together. But in the same light, that certainly isn’t hurting them either.
3. Gaining Advantages in Lane
The final reason why Team Liquid is absolutely killing it this split is quite simply their ability to outperform their lane opponents.
If you analyze the six games which have been played up until now, you can see just how much Team Liquid realizes and respects how gaining lane priority can be a huge factor in winning games.
There are a couple of different ways to obtain these advantages and that can be through simple farming leads which Team Liquid often find themselves getting.
It can also be denying vision through lane domination which allows for the jungler to skulk around unseen and really gives Xmithie free reign to do as he pleases.
One thing that Team Liquid are very good at doing is capitalizing on enemies mistakes while at the same time not creating many mistakes for themselves.
It is this kind of play style which can be very difficult to overcome and walking away from the lane phase with a deficit against Team Liquid could almost be considered a death sentence at this point.
