The North American professional League of Legends LCS returns to action on Saturday for its fifth week of play. Who do our LCS predictions say should be favored to win the matches on Day 1?

Last weekend’s League of Legends action in the LCS proved that no team is unbeatable, with TSM upsetting Team Liquid. Though it’s certainly not likely that Liquid will suddenly unravel now that their quest for perfection is undone, it’s an easy guess that their confidence is shaken. Certainly, my confidence in making LCS predictions is quite shaken.

Saturday’s games mark the end of the first half of the 2019 Spring Split, as each team will have played one match against every other team in the LCS. What do the LCS predictions have in store for Week 5, Day 1?

OpTic (2-6) vs. 100 Thieves (3-5)

You can probably afford to get home a bit late on day one because this match between two of the worst LCS teams is not going to be prime viewing. 100 Thieves have been the epitome of under-performing and are guaranteed to finish the first round robin with a sub .500 record after their 0-2 Week 4. Luckily for them, OpTic has struggled more, ranked the worst team in the LCS by our metrics.

Prediction: 100 Thieves

Team Liquid (7-1) vs. Echo Fox (4-4)

As alluded to, Liquid will be looking to bounce back after their first setback last weekend, while Echo Fox will be smelling blood in the water, hoping to take another chunk out of Echo Fox. The big fireworks will be seen in the bot lane, as the two duos of Doublelift/CoreJJ and Apollo/Hakuho are statistically the two best in the league.

Prediction: Liquid

Clutch (2-6) vs. Golden Guardians (3-5)

The Golden Guardians are the hot hand in the LCS, going 3-1 in their last two weeks after that disastrous 0-4 start to their season. Clutch, on the other hand, really have nothing to rely on other than praying Huni and Piglet will carry them. Incredibly, Clutch has lost six games in a row, and it may very well be seven against the surging Guardians.

Prediction: Golden Guardians

FlyQuest (5-3) vs. Cloud9 (6-2)

I’ve said for a while now that I think FlyQuest are pretenders, despite being in third place in the standings, but now they have the chance to prove it. C9 is unquestionably the second-best LCS team this season behind Liquid, and they’ll outclass FlyQuest at just about every position other than support and perhaps jungle. This is a show-me game for FlyQuest; a win will show me (and the world) that they can hang with the big boys.

Prediction: Cloud9

CLG (4-4) vs. TSM (4-4)

Ah, El Clasico, a once-storied rivalry in the North American League of Legends scene that has lost its luster in the last few years due to each team’s dip in quality. While most would bet on TSM, given that they just unseated the kings of LCS, remember that this is a team that has been notorious for dropping games to inferior competition. After all, they have lost to Clutch and Golden Guardians.

Prediction: CLG

dark. Next. What makes Team Liquid so dominant?
