Wiggily’s Instant Impact

Immediately Wiggily took control of the jungle match-up through an intelligent top river ward to track Akaadian’s invade which allowed him to counter-invade and also chunk Bjergsen’s Cassiopeia out in the middle lane, guiding PoE’s Corki through a relatively difficult match-up. From this, the CLG mid-jungle duo met up to secure an extremely valuable Ocean Dragon just six minutes into the game, forcing TSM onto the back foot.

The substantial power spike provided by Runic Echoes put Wiggily’s Sylas in an ideal position to begin snowballing his team’s small early game lead; this was perfectly communicated amongst the CLG members as they confidently took a 4v5 fight and came out on top creating a 2k gold lead at 11 minutes. Following his jungle item Wiggily built a Hextech Protobelt and Zhonya’s Hourglass, which both gives added damage and also boosts Sylas’ utility in teamfights with a small gap closer and invulnerability to extend skirmishes.

Clever teamfighting, particularly from the Sylas-Yuumi Hijack-Final Chapter partnership, increased CLG’s advantage into a near-insurmountable lead at 20 minutes and Wiggily topped off his incredible performance with an impressive 1v2 in the top lane, solo killing Bjergsen and shutting down Akaadian’s attempts to find the one-for-one. The CLG jungler guaranteed his team’s victory with a great three-man Flash-Cataclysm in the final teamfight to take down both Akaadian and Zven with ease.

The One to Watch in the Jungle

Not only did this MVP-worthy display propel Counter Logic Gaming into 1st place alongside Team Liquid and Cloud9, it also netted Wiggily his first ever LCS Player of the Week award. His expansive champion pool and proficiency on Sylas in teamfights was vital in clinching CLG’s first win over their opponents in over three years, but ultimately the ability to flex Sylas into the jungle role, as well as his awfully strong early game presence, was the cause of TSM’s downfall.

Strong showings in wins against Clutch and TSM in Week 5 will have LCS viewers keenly watching Wiggily’s progress throughout the remainder of the regular season. As it stands CLG look set to reach playoffs and have an outside chance of qualifying for Worlds for the first time since 2016 but will need their in-form jungler to maintain this level of performance if they’re to pip C9/TL/TSM to the post at the end of the season.
