TFT Patch 10.13: The Binary Galaxy Creates New Choices
By Josh Tyler
We look at the newest TFT galaxy and all the other changes coming in Patch 10.13.
The first balance patch following the mid-set update, Patch 10.13 promises to bring some much-needed balance to the galaxy. There is also a brand new galaxy, the Binary Star Galaxy, which will throw a new wrinkle into how you itemize your champions in TFT. Let’s take a glance at all the changes coming in Patch 10.13 to Teamfight Tactics.
Galaxies
"New Galaxy – Binary Star: Champions can only hold two items.Binary Star odds = 10%"
This is a really interesting new galaxy because it encourages players to have three or four carries rather than the traditional one or two you load all your items on. Off the bat, I would think Cybernetics, Snipers, and Star Guardians would all do well in this galaxy. Comps that are not item-dependent will probably also thrive in this galaxy.
"Medium Legends Galaxy has been removed from the game."

RIP to one of the OG galaxies. This was rarely a favorite because it just caused the games to drag out a bit longer than a regular TFT game.
Traits
Battlecast
"Damage or Healing: 70/160/325/600 ⇒ 80/180/480/880"
Battlecast has been extremely underwhelming other than Cassiopeia and perhaps Viktor. Cassiopeia is being buffed, which makes the possibility of a Protector/Battlecast/Mystic comp a bit more realistic.
Blademaster
"Chance for Bonus Attacks: 30/70/100 ⇒ 30/65/100"
Slight nerf to 6 Blademaster, but I don’t think this will have a big impact on the instances where you’d want to go for that comp (like Chrono or Celestial).
Blaster
"Bonus Attacks: 3/5 ⇒ 3/6"
Blaster/Brawler comps have been solid even after the mid-set update, so I’m not sure why Riot feels 4 Blasters need a buff. Maybe they want to keep Blasters more competitive with Snipers, but personally, I thought they were extremely viable.
Cybernetic
"Bonus Attack Damage: 40/80 ⇒ 40/75"
Cybernetics have been a solid comp for a while and got a buff with the introduction of Vayne to TFT. 6 AD could actually be huge and might knock Cybernetic comps down a tier.
Dark Star
"Bonus Attack Damage & Ability Power: 8/16/24/32 ⇒ 8/18/28/38"
Most critically, Riot did not buff 2 Dark Stars, so the Sniper/Astro comp where you include Karma and Jhin won’t get any benefit from these buffs. Getting 4 extra adaptive damage at 6 Dark Stars could actually be huge as it stacks for each death, giving your Jhin the possibility of getting 24 extra damage in the late game.
Infiltrator
"Bonus Attack Speed: 40/70/120 ⇒ 40/80/120"
This is actually a big buff to Zed in the instances where you would go a 4 Infiltrator comp. Maybe a Rebel/Infiltrator comp could somehow come together in Patch 10.13, but it would be reliant on getting Infiltrator’s Talons or Force of Nature in the game.
Mystic
"Magic Resistance: 50/125 ⇒ 50/120"
Mystics have been underrated as a comp for a while now, but they just got their moment in the sun thanks to the Vanguard/Mystic comp built around Cassiopeia. This certainly nerfs that comp and it’s been overdue.
Champions Balance
Illaoi
"Health: 650 ⇒ 700Tentacle Smash Defense Stealing: 20/30/50% ⇒ 30/40/60%Defense Stealing Duration: 4 ⇒ 6 seconds"
A lot of buffs to Illaoi, who had been an incredibly weak champion after being introduced in the last patch. The fact that she is stealing more defenses with her ability, and for longer, makes her an ideal counter to that Vanguard/Mystic comp, especially in a Blaster/Brawler comp.
Nocturne
"Attack Speed: 0.7 ⇒ 0.75Unspeakable Horror Damage: 200/250/350 ⇒ 200/250/400"
The ability damage at 3-stars isn’t nearly as big a deal as the attack speed buff, which could make Nocturne an incredibly strong unit given his Battlecast and Infiltrator traits (both of which just got buffed). More attacks means more opportunities to proc the Battlecast passive.
Xayah
"Total Mana: 70 ⇒ 60"
This is a slight walk-back of the nerfs in Patch 10.11, where her total mana went from 50 to 70. The Shredder comp has been gone since, so maybe this buff could help bring it back into the meta.
Darius
"Armor: 35 ⇒ 40Magic Resist: 20 ⇒ 30Dreadnova Guillotine Damage: 400/500/750 ⇒ 400/550/800"
Darius once ruled the TFT meta and giving him more resistances could make him a primary carry in the Vanguard/Mystic comp (paired with Jayce).
Kog’Maw
"Health: 500 ⇒ 550Total Mana: 40 ⇒ 30Barrage % Max HP Damage: 2/4/7% ⇒ 2/4/8%"
While Blasters/Brawlers has been strong in the meta, Kog’Maw has been probably the weakest piece. The only part of these buffs that’s very impactful would be the percent HP damage buff at 3-stars, because it could make him a slow roll contender.
Nautilus
"Impact Crater Stun Duration: 3/3.5/4 ⇒ 3/3/5 secondsMana: 60/120 ⇒ 50/120"
Overall, this is a nerf because there is little chance you will slow roll Nautilus even in an Astro or Vanguard comp. The nerf probably doesn’t affect either of those comps, though, and I’d expect them to both remain strong in Patch 10.13.
Bard
"Cast time significantly reduced."
Quality of life buff to Bard, who was considered quite weak after the mid-set update.
Cassiopeia
"Poison Duration: 12 seconds ⇒ 14 seconds"
Cassiopeia was already one of the strongest carries in TFT, the centerpiece of the Vanguard/Mystic comp. Even though Mystics are nerfed, the poison duration buff should keep Cassio at the top of the meta in Patch 10.13.
Jayce
"Health: 850 ⇒ 800"
The other primary carry in that Vanguard/Mystic comp, 50 health is a significant nerf. This makes me think that you might add the newly-buffed Darius or GP to the comp for a second carry.
Master Yi
"Chosen One Damage: 75/100/200 ⇒ 75/100/175"
Another nerf to 6 Blademaster, as Yi emerged as one of the strongest carries in this comp. It’s only a nerf to 3-star Yi, and as he hasn’t been a slow roll contender of late, it’s unlikely that the nerf will be felt too hard.
Fizz
"Starting Mana: 60 ⇒ 50"

More a quality of life buff than an actual game-changing buff, since you’re really only getting Fizz for Mech Pilots. Maybe in Patch 10.13 he’ll be stronger in an Infiltrator comp, but you’re still not going to be building him for his ult.
Gnar
"Health on Transform: 750/1250/2500 ⇒ 750/1250/4000Attack Damage on Transform: 100/175/400 ⇒ 100/175/550GNAR! Stun Duration: 2 ⇒ 1.5 seconds"
Placebo buffs considering you’re almost never getting a 3-star Gnar, so consider this an overall nerf to Gnar’s CC.
Jinx
"Get Excited! Bonus Attack Speed: 60/75/100% ⇒ 50/70/100%"
Jinx has been a strong carry in the Blaster/Brawler comp, but after this change (plus the Kog’Maw buffs) I could see her falling off in priority with the Battlecast one being the primary carry.
Riven
"Energy Slash Shield: 250/400/1000 ⇒ 225/375/1000"
Riven is incredibly strong with Rabadon (or even two) so a nerf to her shield will make Riven less of a late-game monster.
Teemo
"Satellite Damage: 125/175/600 ⇒ 125/175/550Satellite Slow Duration: 4 ⇒ 3 seconds"
Teemo has been a monster in the Astro/Sniper comp and he’s annoying as all hell with his slow. A nerf to the damage at 3-stars is meaningless, but I do appreciate Riot nerfing the slow duration on his ult.
Ekko
"Chronobreak Damage: 100/200/2000 ⇒ 100/150/2000"
The damage on Ekko’s Chronobreak isn’t as important as the attack speed slow and the on-hit effect application, so a 50 damage nerf isn’t going to hurt him.
Thresh
Total Mana: 75 ⇒ 90
Thresh’s ability is impactful, yes, but it’s not game-changing. 15 extra mana for his ability is not going to drop him out of the meta.
Items
Bloodthirster
"Healing: 40% ⇒ 45%"
One of the weaker items that builds out of BF Sword, this is a big buff for champions like Shaco, Jhin, and Zed.
Hextech Gunblade
"Healing: 40% ⇒ 45%"
To match the healing on Bloodthirster, but this is just a significantly weaker item.
Jeweled Gauntlet
"Bonus Crit Damage: 20% ⇒ 30%"
Like Hextech Gunbalde, Jeweled Gauntlet isn’t really going to be built except as a last resort, since it doesn’t synergize too well with many champions who want Infinity Edge.
Statikk Shiv
"Damage: 80 ⇒ 90"
With Xayah getting buffed and the Shredder comp possibly on the way back, maybe we could see a resurgence of the Pikachu build we saw a few patches ago.
Zz’Rot Portal
"Health: 1000/2000/3000 ⇒ 1500/2250/3000"
A decent buff, but Zz’Rot is still going to be an item that you build when you’re down to your last few components.
